Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has dismissed claims of divisions within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), insisting that the party remains united.
Wike spoke on Wednesday in Abuja while addressing journalists after inspecting ongoing projects across the FCT. He acknowledged that dissatisfaction among members is common in politics but said it does not amount to factionalisation.
“It is natural in any political setting for some individuals to feel dissatisfied; that is not unusual,” he said.
The minister noted that reconciliation efforts are ongoing ahead of the PDP National Convention scheduled for March 29 and 30, stressing that the process will continue even after the event.
“That there is convention doesn’t mean there will be no reconciliation. Convention will go on; everything has its own time,” he stated.
Wike maintained that he is not aware of any separate camps within the party, insisting that the PDP remains one entity.
“I must say that I am not aware of any separate camp. There’s only one PDP. So it would be wrong for me to say the other camp. I don’t know whether any other camp exists. As far as I am concerned, there is only one PDP and it will be incorrect to suggest otherwise,” he said.
He also pointed out that party primaries are scheduled to hold from April 23 to May 13, in line with the Electoral Act and guidelines of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), noting that the timeline leaves little room for delays.
