Trump Issues Sweeping Pardons to Key Figures in 2020 Election Case

President Donald Trump has issued a broad pardon to several high-profile allies accused of involvement in efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election results, according to U.S. Pardon Attorney Ed Martin.

The sweeping clemency order, signed Friday, grants full pardons to Rudy Giuliani, Sidney Powell, Boris Epshteyn, John Eastman, Mark Meadows, and 72 others allegedly linked to efforts to assemble alternate slates of electors and challenge the certification of the 2020 vote.

The pardon explicitly extends to individuals charged in Georgia’s election interference case, where several of Trump’s former advisers faced criminal counts for what prosecutors described as a coordinated attempt to subvert the election outcome. Four of those individuals had already pleaded guilty.

In a statement accompanying the proclamation, Trump called the pardons an effort to heal divisions stemming from what he continues to claim—without evidence—was a fraudulent election.

“This proclamation ends a grave national injustice perpetrated upon the American people following the 2020 Presidential Election and continues the process of national reconciliation,” the document states.

The order also includes a specific exemption for Trump himself.

“This pardon does not apply to the president of the United States,” the document reads.

The sweeping action is expected to intensify political and legal debate over presidential power and accountability, coming as Trump faces ongoing federal and state investigations into his post-election conduct.
