The entire east and southeast portion of Massachusetts are currently under tropical storm warnings for Tropical Storm Elsa.
While Elsa will be a quick mover from mid-morning to mid-afternoon Friday, there are several reasons for concern in our area.
Tropical Storm Elsa is racing toward New England, just east of Atlantic City, New Jersey early Friday with winds of 50 mph.
Winds gusted to 79 mph in Sea Isle City, New Jersey, and spawned tornado warnings before dawn.
The heaviest rain bands were moving into New York City, Long Island, and Connecticut as daybreak arrived.
The worst will be over around 9:00 a.m.
An additional 2 to 4″ of rain is forecast through the morning!
Later this morning and into the afternoon, Elsa will quickly move into New England bringing flooding rain, gusty winds, and a threat for tornadoes, including Boston.
Tropical Storm Warnings are in effect for coastal New Jersey, along Long Island from East Rockaway Inlet to the eastern tip along the south shore and from Port Jefferson Harbor eastward on the north shore, and from New Haven, Connecticut to Sagamore Beach, Massachusetts, including Cape Cod, Block Island, Martha’s Vineyard, and Nantucket.
