Tinubu Will Win If Election Holds Today – Oshiomhole

Senator Adams Oshiomhole has stated that if a presidential election were to take place today, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu would emerge victorious. The former Edo State Governor made this assertion during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, where he spoke on recent political developments, including the defection of two senators from Kebbi State to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Oshiomhole praised President Tinubu’s performance in office, describing his leadership as “bold and proactive,” particularly in addressing Nigeria’s economic and security challenges.

“He will win very well,” Oshiomhole said, while citing one of the defecting senators, who remarked that constituents in his senatorial zone can now safely return to their farms — a situation that was impossible before Tinubu assumed office.

Highlighting economic reforms under the Tinubu administration, Oshiomhole criticized the previous foreign exchange allocation system, which he said enabled politically connected individuals to exploit Nigeria’s currency at official rates without contributing to real business.

“Just because you are connected to the Central Bank governor, you were allocated $20 million at N350 per dollar. Then you sell it off and profit, without any real business. Tinubu ended that,” he noted.
“Today, what the president gets in exchange rate is what I get. The abuse has stopped.”

On the subject of political defections, Oshiomhole took aim at former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, labeling him “the most experienced defector in Nigeria’s political history.” He noted that Atiku had moved between several political platforms, including the PDP, ACN, and APC, at different points in his career.

“The best person to write a book on why people defect is Atiku Abubakar,” Oshiomhole said. “He left the PDP for the ACN while Tinubu was not even a government official. No one coerced him. He later returned to the PDP, then joined APC, and then left again. Who forced him?”

Oshiomhole’s remarks come amid renewed political realignments and underscore the APC’s optimism about its standing under Tinubu’s leadership.
