President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called on young Nigerians in the digital media space to use their platforms to foster national unity, economic empowerment, and responsible innovation.
Speaking at the Progressives Digital Media Summit held Friday at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, Tinubu urged content creators, influencers, and tech entrepreneurs to verify information before sharing and to avoid promoting divisiveness or misinformation.
The summit, themed “Unveiling the Critical Role of New Media in National Development,” brought together key players from the government and digital industry to discuss the influence of digital tools on Nigeria’s future.
“Your generation has recognised this moment. You are using digital tools to innovate, educate, and demand accountability,” Tinubu said.
“But as your influence grows, so must our collective sense of purpose and responsibility.”
He encouraged young Nigerians to build businesses that provide jobs, create unifying content, and serve as agents of positive change.
“From developing apps to building vibrant online communities, you’re proving that young Nigerians are not waiting for the future you are building it,” the President stated.
Tinubu also reaffirmed his government’s support for the digital economy through initiatives such as the National Digital Innovation Fund and startup-friendly policies.
While praising the sector’s growth, he cautioned against the rise of misinformation, cyber threats, and unethical behaviour online, calling for a renewed culture of digital responsibility in the fast-evolving media space.
