Tinubu to New Service Chiefs: Nigerians Demand Results, Not Excuses

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has urged the newly appointed service chiefs to intensify efforts against terrorism, banditry, and other criminal activities nationwide, emphasizing that Nigerians expect tangible results rather than excuses.

Speaking at the Presidential Villa on Thursday during their decoration ceremony, Tinubu said the nation’s security challenges must not be allowed to linger any longer.

“We cannot allow the crisis that began in 2009 to persist any longer. Nigerians expect results, not excuses. I charge you to carry out your duties with patriotic zeal, be innovative, pre-emptive, and courageous. Let’s stay ahead of those who seek to threaten our peace,” the President said.

He directed the military to adopt technology-driven strategies and swiftly dismantle emerging armed groups operating in the North-Central, North-West, and southern regions.

“Security threats are constantly evolving and mutating. We must not allow new threats to fester. We must be decisive and proactive. Let us smash the new snakes right at the head,” Tinubu declared.

The ceremony, held at the Council Chambers, was attended by Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, several governors, ministers, and senior government officials.

Reaffirming his administration’s support for the armed forces, Tinubu vowed that the sacrifices of fallen soldiers would not be forgotten.

“Our military has remained steadfast in defending our territorial integrity, with many soldiers paying the supreme price. Their sacrifices will not be forgotten,” he said.

He also charged the service chiefs to foster synergy among security agencies and demonstrate effective leadership.

“Work together as a team, compare notes, exchange information effectively, and follow up proactively. We must defeat this enemy once and for all,” Tinubu added.

Responding on behalf of the newly decorated officers, Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, expressed gratitude to the President for the confidence reposed in them and assured Nigerians of renewed dedication to restoring peace.

“Security should be our business, but without the support of Nigerians, we can hardly achieve anything. With national support, we will make Nigeria a safer place,” Oluyede stated.

Those decorated include General Olufemi Oluyede (Chief of Defence Staff), Lieutenant General Emmanuel Parker Undiandeye (Chief of Defence Intelligence), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu (Chief of Army Staff), Vice Admiral Idi Abbas (Chief of Naval Staff), and Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke (Chief of Air Staff).
