Tinubu Set to Spend Christmas in Lagos After Northern Visits

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is set to embark on a three-state visit this weekend, travelling from Abuja to Borno, Bauchi and Lagos, the Presidency has announced.

The trip was disclosed in a statement issued on Friday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.

In Borno State, President Tinubu will commission several federal and state projects alongside Governor Babagana Zulum. He is also expected to attend the wedding ceremony of Sadeeq Sheriff, son of former Borno State Governor, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, and Hadiza Kam Salem.

From Maiduguri, the President will proceed to Bauchi State to commiserate with the family of the late Islamic scholar and Tijjaniyya leader, Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, who died on November 27.

After the Bauchi visit, Tinubu will travel to Lagos for the end-of-year holidays. While in the commercial capital, he is scheduled to serve as Guest of Honour at the Eyo Festival on December 27 at Tafawa Balewa Square. The festival will honour notable personalities, including the President’s mother, Alhaja Abibatu Mogaji, as well as former Lagos State Governors Alhaji Lateef Jakande and Chief Michael Otedola.

Meanwhile, the Bauchi State Government has announced the temporary closure and diversion of major roads in the metropolis ahead of the President’s condolence visit.

In a statement issued late Friday by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado, the government said routes leading to the Sheikh’s mosque and other strategic locations would be closed or diverted between 1pm and 6pm on Saturday for security and traffic control.

Gidado explained that the measures were necessary to ensure public safety and the smooth conduct of the President’s activities.

“The public is hereby notified that some major routes leading to the Sheikh’s mosque and other key locations will be temporarily closed or diverted from 1pm to 6pm for traffic control and security reasons. These measures are purely for safety and effective traffic management during the President’s visit,” he said.

He urged residents to plan their movements accordingly, comply with traffic directives, avoid restricted areas and cooperate with security personnel deployed across the state.

The state government also appealed for calm and responsible conduct, noting that the measures were temporary.

“The Bauchi State Government regrets any inconvenience this may cause and appreciates the understanding and cooperation of the public,” Gidado added, stressing the state’s commitment to maintaining peace while honouring the legacy of the late cleric, whose influence extended beyond Bauchi to Nigeria and the wider Muslim community.
