Tinubu Returns to Abuja After UK Visit, Eid Break in Lagos

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has returned to Abuja after an eight-day break that combined a state visit to the United Kingdom with Eid-el-Fitr celebrations in Lagos.

The President arrived at the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport at about 7:50 p.m., where he was received by top government officials, including Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, and former governor Olusegun Osoba.

According to a statement by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the presidential aircraft departed the Presidential Wing of the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos, at 6:44 p.m.

Tinubu had earlier returned from the United Kingdom following what the presidency described as a “historic state visit.” He subsequently travelled to Lagos, where he observed Eid-el-Fitr prayers at Dodan Barracks, marking the end of Ramadan.

During his stay, the President held a series of political and diplomatic engagements, including hosting 23 state governors—among them Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji—in what observers described as a show of political unity.

He also met with a delegation from the European Union, although details of the discussions were not disclosed, and received members of the Lagos State Governance Advisory Council (GAC), a key political body within the ruling party structure.

Vice President Kashim Shettima was in Lagos to brief the President on his recent trip to Borno State following a suicide bombing incident, highlighting the administration’s ongoing attention to security challenges in the northeast.

At the departure ceremony in Lagos, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, his deputy Obafemi Hamzat, alongside other senior officials and party leaders, were present to see off the President.

Tinubu’s return to Abuja marks the conclusion of his extended stay in Lagos, which combined official engagements with the observance of the Islamic holiday. His visit to the United Kingdom earlier in March was his first official trip to Britain since assuming office in 2023.
