Tinubu Pledges to Reclaim Ungoverned Spaces, Boost Security in the North West

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to addressing insecurity in Nigeria, particularly in the North West, by reclaiming ungoverned spaces, including the region’s forests, which have become hotspots for kidnapping, banditry, and terrorism.

Speaking at a state dinner with Katsina elders and leaders, Tinubu emphasized the need for advanced surveillance and technology to tackle the region’s security issues. “We will invest more in technology and take over the forests,” the President declared, underscoring the national nature of security challenges. “If we genuinely need investment in Nigeria, we must address security.”

Acknowledging the gravity of the security situation, Tinubu assured the Armed Forces that his administration would take decisive action against terrorism and banditry. He also highlighted Nigeria’s economic recovery, pointing to recent positive growth as a result of bold policy decisions.

In a bid to further strengthen the economy, the President proposed upgrading the airport in Katsina State, a project that would generate jobs and stimulate economic growth.

Tinubu also extended support to victims of terrorism, pledging assistance to help them rebuild their lives. He expressed gratitude to Katsina State Governor Aminu Bello Masari for securing the North West’s endorsement during the 2023 election campaign.

Governor Dikko Radda added that Katsina had set up a security outfit to gather and supply intelligence, complementing efforts to improve regional safety. He also shared plans to expand the airport, a project valued at N54 billion, which is expected to create 2,700 direct jobs.

Former Governor Masari expressed his full support for the President, praising his political will and determination to confront the country’s challenges. He stressed the importance of a comprehensive, bottom-up approach to tackling insecurity in the North West.
