President Bola Tinubu has called for swift action to restore electricity across northern Nigeria, following a recent blackout caused by vandalism of critical infrastructure. According to a statement from spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu met with Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu on Monday to discuss the status of repairs to the Shiroro-Kaduna transmission line, which was severely damaged.
The President directed the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) to expedite repairs and instructed National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu to deploy Army and Air Force support to ensure the safety of engineers at work sites. Additionally, Tinubu urged traditional and community leaders to help protect public infrastructure from further sabotage, stressing that the government will not tolerate deliberate destruction of national assets.
The prolonged blackout has disrupted daily life and businesses across the northern region. Tinubu expressed deep concern and reiterated the government’s commitment to finding long-term solutions to prevent future disruptions.
