Tinubu Launches Nigerian Youth Academy to Combat Unemployment

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has unveiled the Nigerian Youth Academy (NiYA) to address the country’s rising unemployment rate by equipping young Nigerians with essential skills for global competitiveness.

Represented by Vice-President Kashim Shettima at the launch, Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to youth empowerment, stating that the academy will train millions of young Nigerians over the next two years.

“Through world-class training in digital literacy, technical skills, entrepreneurship, and the creative industries, we will ensure that our youth are equipped to compete on the global stage,” Tinubu said.

The initiative is complemented by other youth-focused programs, including the Youth Investment Fund and the Presidential Initiative for Youth Enterprise Clusters, which aim to provide financial support, mentorship, and business resources. Additionally, Tinubu announced plans to establish a National Youth Development Bank to facilitate access to capital for young entrepreneurs.

Minister for Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, encouraged young Nigerians to seize the opportunities offered by NiYA, emphasizing its role in bridging the skills gap in Nigeria’s job market.

“NiYA represents President Tinubu’s commitment to building a better future for Nigerian youths,” Olawande stated.

The academy will focus on education and skills development, economic empowerment, and leadership training, creating pathways for Nigerian youths to participate in the global economy.

The launch also featured a presentation of N1 million start-up packages to six beneficiaries from each geopolitical zone, reinforcing the government’s drive to support youth entrepreneurship and economic growth.
