President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has dismissed the emerging opposition coalition aiming to challenge his leadership in the 2027 general elections, branding its leaders as “politically displaced persons” searching for relevance.
Speaking on Wednesday during a working visit to Lafia, the capital of Nasarawa State, Tinubu described the coalition’s early moves as misguided and politically premature.
“Those who have triggered early politics in the perdition of coalition suddenly don’t pay them any attention; they are the political IDPs. Don’t give them a home; the hope is here,” the president said.
His comment follows last week’s submission of a letter of intent to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) by leaders of the proposed All Democratic Alliance (ADA), a political movement led by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and ex-Kaduna Governor Nasir el-Rufai.
Tinubu warned that he would not fold his arms while individuals he accused of “gangsterism” work to destabilize his administration.
“I’m not geared for what they tried to pull on me an early political campaign but who is the politician who will keep quiet when the gangsterism are forming a coalition to unseat themselves?” he added.
Despite mounting economic challenges, Tinubu said his government has made notable progress and eliminated wasteful spending.
“We’ve cut the waste. I won’t say much on the economic dynamism that we’re facing, but the hope is here. From this moment on, you’ll have no regret,” he assured.
The president commended Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule for executing impactful projects and managing state resources prudently.
“I can see hard work coming from A.A. Sule, who is determined to use the resources available to him for the benefit, stability, and prosperity of Nasarawa State,” Tinubu said.
He also praised the efforts of the first lady of Nasarawa and reaffirmed the federal government’s support for the state in its development drive.
