Tinubu Is a Northern Asset, Not a Liability — Defence Minister

Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, has dismissed allegations that President Bola Tinubu is a political liability to Northern Nigeria, describing such claims as “politically motivated” and driven by frustrated elites seeking attention.

In a statement released Friday through his Special Assistant on Political Affairs, Hon. Ibrahim Goga, the former Zamfara State governor said:

“Our people in the North are wise enough not to be misled by individuals who have failed to secure their political future. These are people who once held power but failed to make a meaningful impact.”

Matawalle called on Northerners to support Tinubu’s administration, especially in tackling insecurity.

“We must not allow ourselves to be manipulated into becoming part of the problem. Instead, we must rally behind the President to ensure lasting peace and development in the North.”

He accused certain political elites of spreading misinformation because they were excluded from federal appointments.

“These individuals are not to be trusted with our future. When given the mandate in the past, they squandered it.”

Highlighting Tinubu’s contributions to regional development and security, Matawalle cited the success of Operation Fansan Yamma, which reportedly neutralized over 65 notorious bandit leaders and destroyed 200 camps.

He also noted key infrastructure projects being executed under Tinubu’s administration, including the Zaria–Gusau–Talata Mafara–Sokoto expressway and the re-awarded Abuja–Kaduna–Kano highway.

“These are major projects that were ignored or abandoned for years. Now, they are being revived and executed under President Tinubu.”

Matawalle concluded by reaffirming Tinubu’s commitment to a united, secure, and prosperous Nigeria, assuring Northerners of continued federal support and presence in the region.
