President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Abdulrazak Yusuf Tukur as the National Commissioner for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), representing the North West. In addition, Tinubu has nominated Saseyi Feyijimi Ibiyemi, a lawyer, as the new Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Ogun State, following the passing of ‘Niyi Ijalaye in August.
Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, announced that Tukur, 59, holds a Bachelor of Arts from Bayero University, a postgraduate diploma in Economics from Bradford University, England, and a Master of Arts from Leeds University, England. Tukur has had a long career with INEC, joining in 1999 and advancing to the position of Director of Electoral Operations and Logistics. His appointment is pending Senate confirmation.
Onanuga also revealed that Ibiyemi, 58, originally from Ilaje in Ondo State, is currently the INEC Administrative Secretary in Lagos State. She graduated with a law degree from Obafemi Awolowo University in 1987 and was called to the bar in 1988. Upon Senate approval, Ibiyemi will take over as the Resident Electoral Commissioner for Ogun State.
