In a shocking incident, at least 55 people were abducted by a terrorist gang while escorting a bride through Damari town in Sabuwa Local Government Area of Katsina State.
Katsina, usually referred to as Katsina State to distinguish it from the city of Katsina, is a state in North West zone of Nigeria.
The attack occurred on Thursday evening around 8:00 pm, although security agencies are yet to issue an official confirmation.
According to a resident who spoke to Channels Television, the victims were ambushed by the terrorists while traveling on a canter vehicle.
Initially, there were over 70 individuals accompanying the bride, but many managed to escape the assailants’ grasp.
Tragically, three security volunteers lost their lives while attempting to rescue the abducted individuals.
“Before the hoodlums attack the victims on a canter vehicle, the victims were initially over 70 mostly friends to the bride in which several others escaped”, he added.
Sabuwa, apart from being an agrarian area, also remains one of the security front line LGAs grappling with the activities of bandits and their collaborators mostly informants to bandits.
Authorities are under increasing pressure to address the escalating threat posed by terrorist groups and bandits operating in the region, with urgent calls for enhanced security measures and intervention to protect vulnerable communities.
