Suspended DCP Complains Of Diabetes As Court Denies His Request For Release

Abba Kyari
The suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police Abba Kyari’s motion for release from detention was denied by the Federal High Court in Abuja.

According to reports, the beleaguered former chief of the Intelligence Response Team, IRT, has sued the federal government over his extended imprisonment in the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA’s custody.

On Monday, Justice Inyang Eden Ekwo issued a ruling in the matter, instructing Abba Kyari to notify the Federal Government of the complaint he filed against it.

Justice Ekwo refused to order the suspended DCP’s immediate release, instead directing him to serve notice on the respondent.

All of the claims leveled against the federal government, according to the judge, are so serious that the court must allow the government to defend itself.

Abba Kyari had requested the court, through his lawyer Cynthia Obianuju Ikena, to order his release or impose liberal bail terms for him.

The police officer said that he had severe diabetes that is endangering his life and that he need immediate medical assistance.

The date for the parties to appear before the court has been set for February 24.
