Suspect Arrested in Double Murder of ‘American Idol’ Music Supervisor and Husband in Los Angeles

A 22-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the brutal murder of American Idol music supervisor Robin Kaye and her husband, songwriter Thomas Deluca, police announced Tuesday. Despite the arrest, many questions surrounding the double homicide remain unanswered.

The couple, both 70 years old, were found shot to death inside their Encino home on Monday after a friend requested a welfare check. According to the Los Angeles Police Department, officers discovered signs of forced entry and blood on the front porch before breaking a window to enter the home, where they found both victims with gunshot wounds to the head.

LAPD Lieutenant Guy Golan identified the suspect as Raymond Boodarian, who was arrested Tuesday at his residence. Golan said Boodarian allegedly climbed an 8-foot spiked fence to enter the property on July 10. Surveillance footage captured him entering through an unlocked door approximately 30 minutes before the couple returned home. A violent struggle reportedly ensued inside the residence, during which Boodarian allegedly shot and killed the couple.

Police confirmed they had received two reports of a possible burglary at the Encino property on the day of the murders. However, responding officers were unable to access the fortified home and, after spotting no obvious signs of disturbance from an overhead helicopter, left the scene.

Golan said the house showed no signs of being ransacked, and investigators are still working to determine a motive. “We’re looking into multiple avenues,” he said, but noted that Boodarian did not know the victims and is not currently linked to any other burglaries.

There is no interior camera footage showing what occurred inside the home, further complicating the investigation. Authorities have stated that they will review the LAPD’s initial response to the earlier burglary reports to ensure procedures were properly followed.

Robin Kaye had been a beloved figure on American Idol since 2009. In a statement, the show’s spokesperson expressed grief over the loss: “We are devastated to hear of Robin and her dear husband, Tom’s, passing. Robin has been a cornerstone of the Idol family since 2009 and was truly loved and respected by all who came in contact with her. Robin will remain in our hearts forever, and we share our deepest sympathy with her family and friends during this difficult time.”
