Governor Chukwuma Soludo has been officially sworn in for a second term as the leader of Anambra State.
The inauguration ceremony was held on Tuesday at the newly renovated Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka, where he took the oath of office alongside his deputy, Onyeka Ibezim.
In his inaugural address, Soludo pledged to consolidate on the achievements of his first term, with particular emphasis on improved security across the state. “The debilitating one-sit-at-home is over, and our schools, markets, businesses, and public servants are back to work. Ndi Anambra says that ours is now the safest, or at least one of the safest states in Nigeria,” he said.
The ceremony attracted several high-profile dignitaries, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, former presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan, as well as former Commonwealth Secretary-General Emeka Anyaoku. Siminalayi Fubara and other dignitaries from across the country were also in attendance.
Soludo’s swearing-in follows his victory in the November 8, 2025 governorship election, as declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Representing the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), he secured 422,664 votes to defeat his closest rival, Nicholas Ukachukwu of the All Progressives Congress, who polled 99,445 votes. Paul Chukwuma of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) came third with 37,753 votes.
A total of 16 candidates contested the election, which had 2,788,864 registered voters. Of these, 598,229 voters were accredited, while 595,298 votes were cast, including 11,244 rejected ballots across the state’s 21 local government areas. Soludo recorded a sweeping victory, winning in all 21 local government areas of the state.
