Siminalayi Fubara Denies Tinubu’s Allegations, Defends Actions

Suspended Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has dismissed allegations made by President Bola Tinubu in his recent state of emergency declaration, insisting that he has taken necessary steps to maintain peace and rebuild governance structures in the state.

In a statement issued on Thursday by his Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, Fubara refuted claims that he failed to act against militant threats or neglected the reconstruction of the Rivers State House of Assembly complex.

“It is important to clarify that Governor Fubara has nothing to do with the threats by militants and also did not in any way ‘telegraph’ the reported attacks on any oil facility in the state,” the statement read.

Regarding the demolished House of Assembly complex, Fubara maintained that the reconstruction was nearly 80% complete and that his administration had followed professional advice to rebuild the deteriorating structure.

He also attributed recent tensions to remarks made by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, who allegedly dismissed the Ijaw people as politically powerless, triggering widespread outcry.

Fubara emphasized his administration’s commitment to security, noting that he had provided vehicles, gunboats, and a surveillance helicopter to support the military and law enforcement agencies.

He urged security agencies to investigate the real perpetrators of violence in Rivers State, stating that his leadership had always prioritized peace and non-violence, despite provocations.
