Sheikh Gumi Volunteer To Join Bandit Negotiation Team

Sheikh Ahmad Gumi

Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, a prominent Islamic scholar, has expressed his openness to participate in negotiations with bandits for the benefit of national peace.

In a chat with Trust TV, he expressed his openness to contribute to the process if President Bola Tinubu asked.

Sheikh Gumi emphasized the importance of a multifaceted approach engaging intellectuals, emirs, and university instructors in order to promote long-term peace in impacted areas.

“I don’t have to lead it, but I would volunteer myself to be part of it. It’s not about leadership; it’s about a holistic package that addresses the issue,” he noted.

He praised former Zamfara state governor Senator Sani Yarima’s recent suggestions of negotiating with bandits and award them amnesty in the same way that former Niger Delta militants were granted amnesty.

While Sheikh Gumi praised Nuhu Ribadu’s appointment as National Security Adviser, he expressed hope that Ribadu would not simply be a ceremonial figure.

In addressing the country’s security concerns, the Sheikh noted a lack of cooperation among security agencies as a major impediment to combating insecurity.

Gumi also expressed his dissatisfaction with the recent retirement of over 100 Army Generals, regretting the loss given the resources put in their training.

He advised politicians to avoid politicizing the military and the judiciary, acknowledging their crucial functions.
