Abdulfatai Buhari, senator representing Oyo North, has declared his intention to contest the Oyo State governorship election in 2027.
Speaking on Parrot FM, the All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain said he is ready to transition from legislative work to executive leadership. “This is the third time I would be a senator and the fourth time I would go to the national assembly. I’ve tried,” he said. “But what I really want to do, if God grants me, is to become the governor of Oyo State.”
Buhari ruled out returning to the senate, even if his local government secures the ticket again. “Even if they bring the senate to our side again, I won’t come out as a senator anymore unless it is for governor,” he stated. “Let another person do it. We will train those coming behind us.”
Confirming his boss’s plans, Afeez Kilani, Buhari’s senior legislative aide, told TheCable that Buhari is responding to calls from constituents who believe his experience makes him a strong candidate for governor.
Buhari began his political career in 2003 when he was elected to the House of Representatives for the Ogbomoso North, Ogbomoso South, and Oriire federal constituency.
