On Wednesday, the Senate confirmed seven new ministerial nominees put forward by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, concluding a recent cabinet reshuffle. The confirmed appointees include Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda (Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction), Muhammadu Maigari Dingyadi (Labour and Employment), and Bianca Odinaka Odumegu–Ojukwu (Foreign Affairs – State).
Others who secured Senate approval are Dr. Jumoke Oduwole (Industry, Trade, and Development), Idi Muktar Maiha (Livestock Development), Rt. Hon. Yusuf Abdullahi Ata (Housing – State), and Dr. Suwaiba Said Ahmad (Education – State).
Originally scheduled for screening on Tuesday, the process was delayed to allow completion of required documentation, as confirmed by Senator Basheer Lado, Special Adviser to the President on Senate Matters.
This confirmation follows President Tinubu’s recent decision to dismiss six ministers, introduce seven replacements, and reassign portfolios for ten existing ministers. In a formal letter presented last week, Senate President Godswill Akpabio read Tinubu’s request for these confirmations under Section 147 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).
Akpabio encouraged the new ministers to support the “Renewed Hope” agenda of President Tinubu, while also urging future administrations to adopt the practice of assigning portfolios to ministerial nominees ahead of Senate screenings.
