Once the charismatic host of star-studded White Parties in the Hamptons, music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs now faces a starkly different stage — a federal courtroom in Manhattan, where he stands accused of running a years-long campaign of sexual abuse, coercion, and violence.
Combs, 55, is set to stand trial on charges including racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking, and transporting individuals across state lines for prostitution. Prosecutors allege that behind the glamour of his hip-hop empire, the Bad Boy Records founder orchestrated a disturbing pattern of abuse under the guise of exclusive gatherings.
The indictment describes Combs as using his celebrity status and wealth to manipulate and terrorize young women, hosting drug-fueled “Freak Offs” in which victims were allegedly forced to engage in sex acts with male sex workers — all while being recorded by Combs himself.
Witnesses are expected to testify that Combs violently intimidated those around him, with accounts of choking, kicking, dragging victims by their hair, and even dangling one individual over a balcony. Though Combs has acknowledged one act of violence — the widely circulated video showing him assaulting former girlfriend Cassie — his legal team insists that the other allegations are unfounded.
Jury selection begins Monday, with testimony likely to follow next week. If convicted on all counts, Combs could face decades behind bars.
The criminal investigation gained momentum after Cassie, whose legal name is Casandra Ventura, filed a civil lawsuit in late 2023. She accused Combs of subjecting her to years of physical and sexual abuse beginning in 2005. Her claims helped prompt further allegations and served as a catalyst for federal authorities to act.
While several civil suits have been filed against Combs, this trial centers on the allegations of four women, including Cassie, and is expected to become a high-profile reckoning for the once-revered music icon.
