Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu is set to inaugurate 36 roads, five vehicular bridges, and a pedestrian bridge across the state, beginning Monday, December 9, 2024. These projects, completed over the past year, signify a major milestone in his administration’s commitment to infrastructure development.
Olufemi Daramola, the Special Adviser on Infrastructure, highlighted the projects’ focus on improving traffic management and transportation to boost residents’ welfare and productivity.
Quoting the governor’s budget presentation, Daramola stated:
“Continuous investments in infrastructure are the backbone of our development agenda. The Greater Lagos we envision will emerge on the back of high-quality infrastructure that keeps pace with population growth.”
The projects span several local government areas, including:
- Agege: Rehabilitation of Dopemu Road
- Ifako-Ijaiye: Construction of Abiola-Onijemo Link Road with a bridge
- Amuwo Odofin: Reconstruction of Irede Road
- Ikoyi (Eti-Osa): Rehabilitation of Oyinkan Abayomi Drive
Despite economic challenges, including inflationary pressures, the projects were prioritized and completed on schedule. Daramola emphasized:
“Delivering these projects amidst economic downturns demonstrates the administration’s commitment to its promises and the prosperity of Lagosians.”
The inauguration will begin with the commissioning of the Abiola-Onijemo Link Road in Ifako-Ijaiye and the Alapere Pedestrian Bridge in Kosofe.
