A Rivers State High Court sitting in Oyibo Local Government Area, Port Harcourt, has issued an interim order of injunction restraining the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly and 25 others from proceeding with the impeachment process against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Prof. Ngozi Odu.
The order also restrains the Clerk of the House and the Chief Judge of Rivers State, Justice Simeon Chibuzor-Amadi, from taking any step in furtherance of the impeachment process.
In his ruling on a motion ex parte filed separately by Governor Fubara and Deputy Governor Odu, Justice F. A. Fiberesima barred the Chief Judge from receiving, forwarding, considering or acting on any request, resolution, articles of impeachment or related communication from the first to the 27th defendants.
The court specifically restrained the Chief Judge from constituting a panel to investigate the alleged misconduct against the governor and his deputy for a period of seven days.
Justice Fiberesima further granted leave to the claimants to serve the interim injunction and originating processes on the first to the 31st defendants by pasting the documents at the gate of the Rivers State House of Assembly quarters.
The court also ordered that service on the 32nd defendant, the Chief Judge of Rivers State, be effected through any staff of the judiciary at the Chief Judge’s Chambers within the High Court premises.
The matter was adjourned to January 23, 2026, for hearing of the motion on notice.
