Trademore Estate residents have descended in force on Monday in protest against the Federal Capital Territory Administration’s (FCTA) planned demolition of the Estate.
Following a devastating flood catastrophe caused by heavy rain in the early hours of Friday, June 23, the FCT Administration had announced a proposal to demolish the estate located along the Lugbe-Airport axis.
The administration has declared the Estate to be a disaster zone and advised residents to leave right away due to the “consistent and persistent” threat of flooding in the Estate.
Residents, however, did not like the idea and came out on Monday morning to urge the FCTA to offer engineering alternatives rather than demolish houses.
Some of the residents carried signs that said, “Trademore Estate is not a disaster zone,” “Provide engineering solutions, not roadside approaches,” “put an end to senseless killing,” among others.
