The House of Representatives has launched an investigation into the Federal Government’s conditional cash transfer programme following reports of irregular payments to beneficiaries.
Honourable Abass Adigun, who moved the motion, reminded lawmakers that in August 2024, nominees were promised ₦50,000 each for three months. However, while some beneficiaries received payments months after submitting their details, others have yet to receive any funds, with the National Cash Transfer Office remaining unresponsive.
President Bola Tinubu suspended the programme in January over alleged corruption. Originally introduced under former President Muhammadu Buhari through the National Social Investment Programme (NSIP), the initiative was reinstated in February with plans to expand coverage to an additional 12 million households.
The House aims to scrutinize the scheme’s implementation to ensure transparency and accountability.
