Nigerian students at higher education institutions have been called to mobilize in the run-up to the 2023 general election to replace any form of bad leadership.
Alhaji Shehu Dalhatu, who chaired the Maitama Sule Leadership Lecture Series organized by the Students Wing of the Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) at the College of Education in Gumel, Jigawa State, charged the students as custodians of the future to work to replace the bad leaders who had monopolized the country’s total available activity since 1999.
Dalhatu stated that the majority of persons in positions of leadership in local government councils and state assemblies are under the age of 40, and questioned why students in the same age group would not rise to curb their excesses.
Dr. Saidu Ahmed Dukawa, the keynote speaker, remarked that data shows a surge in student enrollment since 1999, emphasizing the necessity of students’ vigilance over the direction our country is headed.
And the main paper presenter, Dr. Saminu Umar, bemoaned the fact that Nigeria has never had free and credible elections because of what he called a “lying political class” that manipulates religion, ethnicity, and regional feelings to distort elections.
