The Super Eagles and Costa Rica met for the first time at the Senior level in a match that will prepare the Central American side for the global tournament.
Costa Rica won thanks to goals from Oscar Duarte and Kendall Waston in each half.
Joel Campbell, a former Arsenal striker, assisted on both goals.
The friendly match, held at the Estadio Nacional, featured only players from the Super Eagles’ home country.
Duarte’s goal in the seventh minute gave Costa Rica the lead, giving them a solid start.
And Waston increased their advantage in the 73rd minute to help his side go back to winning ways following their last match, which was also a friendly against South Korea in September and finished 2-2.
While the Super Eagles have now lost three games in a row, they hope to get back to winning ways in their next match against Portugal, who will also compete in this year’s World Cup.
The contest with the Portuguese is scheduled for Thursday, November 17, at Estadio Jose Alvalade.
