Prince Harry Opens Up About Royal Rift, Security Battle: ‘I Would Love Reconciliation’

Prince Harry has expressed his desire to reconcile with the Royal Family, saying he is “devastated” by a UK court ruling that denied his appeal to reinstate full police protection for himself and his family while visiting the United Kingdom.

Speaking to the BBC from California, the Duke of Sussex admitted the legal defeat had left him disillusioned and feeling betrayed. “I would love reconciliation with my family. There’s no point continuing to fight any more—life is precious,” he said, adding that the long-running dispute over security has “always been the sticking point.”

Harry revealed that King Charles has distanced himself from him due to the security row. “My father won’t speak to me because of this security stuff,” he said. “I never asked him to intervene—I asked him to step out of the way and let the experts do their jobs.”

The prince described the legal process as a “good old-fashioned establishment stitch-up,” claiming the Royal Household played a role in influencing the decision to reduce his protection. “I’m devastated—not so much by the loss itself but by the people behind the decision, feeling as though this is okay,” he said.

Following the court ruling on Friday, Harry confirmed he would not pursue further legal action, acknowledging that the decision “proven there was no way to win this through the courts.” The judgment noted that while he raised “powerful” concerns about threats, they did not amount to a valid legal claim.

Harry stepped down from official royal duties in 2020 and relocated to the United States with his wife Meghan. As a result, his automatic entitlement to taxpayer-funded security was revoked. The prince said the change has made it unsafe for his family to return unless invited by the Royal Family, where heightened security would be provided.

“I can’t see a world in which I would bring my wife and children back to the UK at this point,” he said. “I love my country… and I think it’s really quite sad that I won’t be able to show my children my homeland.”

Despite the ongoing tension, Prince Harry said he has “forgiven” his family and reiterated his hope for peace. “This, at the heart of it, is a family dispute,” he said. “And it makes me really, really sad that we’re sitting here today, five years later, still trying to fix it.”
