In preparation for the swearing-in ceremony of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu as Nigeria’s new president on May 29, 2023, the Boeing 737 presidential jet was flown abroad over the weekend for extensive maintenance.
The 20-year-old NAF 001 will be returned in May and given to the new administration following significant improvements to its avionics and other mechanical systems, according to presidential villa sources quoted by The Punch.
President Muhammadu Buhari will travel on a different plane from the Presidential Air Fleet over the coming weeks before the country is handed over to a new leader, the source said.
Although the location of the maintenance is still unknown, the aircraft’s manufacturer, Boeing, had previously performed maintenance on the aircraft in the United States of America.
