President Bola Tinubu will officially swear in Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun as the new Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) today, August 23, 2024.
This event follows President Tinubu’s commendation of Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, who is retiring after a distinguished career as Chief Justice of Nigeria, effective August 22.
According to a statement by presidential spokesman Ajuri Ngelale on Thursday, Justice Ariwoola has had a notable career, serving in the Court of Appeal across Kaduna, Enugu, and Lagos Divisions before being elevated to the Supreme Court in 2011. He was appointed Chief Justice of Nigeria in 2022 and has held various judicial roles, contributing significantly to the country’s legal framework.
President Tinubu lauded Justice Ariwoola for his outstanding service to the nation, highlighting his leadership and substantial contributions to Nigerian jurisprudence, as well as his role in strengthening the judiciary.
“The President thanks Justice Ariwoola and wishes him the very best for the future,” Ngelale stated. Justice Kekere-Ekun’s swearing-in ceremony will be held at the State House Council Chambers, marking the beginning of her tenure as the new Chief Justice of Nigeria.
