President Tinubu to Attend Africa Heads of State Energy Summit in Tanzania

President Bola Tinubu is set to leave Abuja  today for Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, to attend the Africa Heads of State Energy Summit, scheduled for January 27–28, 2025.

The summit, themed “Mission 300,” aims to expand electricity access to 300 million Africans by 2030. It is being hosted by the Tanzanian government in collaboration with the African Development Bank Group and the World Bank.

In a statement on Saturday, Presidential Spokesperson Bayo Onanuga explained that the event will unite African leaders, private sector stakeholders, development partners, and civil society organizations to develop strategies for tackling energy challenges across the continent.

“The Summit will provide a platform for sharing knowledge, expertise, and resources to address Africa’s energy challenges. Discussions will focus on accelerating energy access in underserved regions, renewable energy, energy efficiency, and mobilising private sector investment,” Onanuga stated.

Day one of the summit will feature presentations from various countries, including Nigeria, showcasing their national energy strategies, or compacts. The second day will culminate with the adoption of the Dar es Salaam Energy Declaration, which outlines a collective roadmap for achieving the Mission 300 goals.

President Tinubu is scheduled to deliver a national address, reaffirming Nigeria’s commitment to universal energy access and its leadership in Africa’s energy sector. He will also highlight Nigeria’s clean energy projects and plans to drive integrated energy delivery across the continent.

Accompanying the President are Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu; Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu; Special Adviser on Energy, Olu Verheijen; and other senior officials.

This trip follows President Tinubu’s recent participation in Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW 2025) in the United Arab Emirates. He is expected to return to Abuja following the conclusion of the summit.
