Controversial Nigerian singer, Portable, has regained his freedom after spending one week in prison, following his release on Monday, January 19, 2026, after fulfilling the bail conditions granted by the court.
In a video that has since gone viral on social media, the singer insisted on his innocence, declaring, “they lied against me. I’m innocent.”
Portable had been remanded in prison a week earlier over allegations of assault and theft levelled against him by his baby mama, Ashabi Simple, and her siblings. The controversy stemmed from an incident on New Year’s Eve, when a video capturing a heated exchange between the singer and Ashabi surfaced online.
In the footage, Ashabi was seen holding Portable’s clothes while saying, “Pami baby” (Baby you have to kill me), a moment that quickly sparked widespread reactions across social media platforms.
Following the incident, Ashabi and her siblings reported the singer to the authorities, accusing him of assault and the theft of their car. Portable was subsequently arrested and arraigned last Monday on a nine-count criminal charge, including theft, causing harm, assault, and resisting arrest, before the Federal High Court sitting in Ota, Ogun State.
At the time, the presiding judge ordered that Portable be remanded in prison and adjourned the matter for a fresh bail hearing to Monday, January 19, 2026, a decision that ultimately led to his release.
