The Nigeria Police Force has withdrawn officers attached to some Very Important Persons (VIPs) across the country.
The coordinating Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) in charge of the Southwest, Sylvester Alabi, disclosed this during his maiden visit to the Ekiti State police headquarters.
This move aims to address the critical shortage of manpower within the police force. “There was a time we assessed the level of deployment of officers and realized that there are some areas where manpower is underutilized. Those officers have been recalled. The issue of unnecessary waste of manpower has been adequately addressed,” Alabi explained.
He noted that the federal government has approved continuous recruitment of new officers to help the police effectively and efficiently fulfill their mandate.
Alabi also announced that the Nigeria Police Force plans to adopt drones and other technological means to combat crime in Ekiti State and other regions. “We will not shy away from using drones and other technological advances to achieve a zero-crime level in the country,” he stated.
His visit to Ekiti State is part of a broader mission directed by Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, which involves touring the six geopolitical zones to assess the strategic deployment of police resources and address challenges faced by officers in their duties.
“Technology is very important. Gadgets like drones that gather information and locate kidnappers’ hideouts will help us deal with them more effectively,” Alabi added.
He emphasized the necessity of technological improvements in modern policing and assured that the force will increasingly integrate these advances to enhance their crime-fighting capabilities.
