Plateau Govt Condemns Attack on Chikam Community, Mourns Slain Student, Others

The Plateau State Government has expressed strong condemnation over the recent attack on Chikam, a community neighboring the Plateau State University in Bokkos Local Government Area, where three individuals, including a student of the university, lost their lives.
Plateau State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Musa Ashoms, described the incident as saddening, particularly noting the loss of lives of innocent people, including a student.
“People just in their sleep lose their lives. So, we are using this opportunity to call on security agencies,” he stated, emphasizing the need for heightened security measures to apprehend and prosecute the perpetrators responsible for the heinous act.
Ashoms commended the efforts of security agencies but urged them to intensify their efforts to ensure the swift arrest and prosecution of those behind the attack, emphasizing the importance of bringing the perpetrators to justice to prevent further occurrences.
“As a government, we frown against this act, and like I said, the government and people of Plateau State are sad with this happening,” the commissioner added, echoing the sentiment of grief felt across the state.
“They have done really well but we are urging them to redouble their steps to do more in the area of arresting and prosecuting the perpetrators of this evil because we would be going back and forth if we do not have any arrests after all these attacks.”
“So, as a government, we frown against this act, and like I said, the government and people of Plateau State are sad with this happening,” the commissioner added.
In response to the incident, students of Plateau State University in Bokkos staged a protest following the death of a 200-level Computer Science student who resided in Chikam. However, security operatives intervened to quell the protest and restore calm.
Following the tragic event, the management of the university declared a two-day mourning period and suspended all examinations scheduled for the period, as the institution grapples with the loss of one of its students and the broader impact of the attack on the community.
