PDP’s Roadmap and New Institute Will Restore Nigeria’s Glory by 2027 – Gov. Makinde

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has expressed strong confidence in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s ability to “fix Nigeria and restore it to its former glory,” following the unveiling of the party’s roadmap and the inauguration of the Board of Governors for the Peoples Democratic Institute (PDI) at the PDP National Headquarters in Abuja on Thursday.

In his address, Makinde emphasized the importance of the PDP offering real hope to Nigerians, establishing a clear ideological direction in preparation for the 2027 elections. “Today marks a significant step for the PDP as we unveil the roadmap and inaugurate the PDI Board. This brings us closer to defining our ideology and laying the foundation for our future legacy,” Makinde said. He highlighted the PDI as a critical instrument for “redefining the PDP’s ideology,” setting the party apart from the All Progressives Congress (APC), which he criticized for the nation’s ongoing economic challenges since 2015.

Makinde also acknowledged the unwavering support he has received from the PDP since joining in 2019, pledging to uphold the party’s values. “I have drawn from this well, and I will not pollute it,” he assured, praising party members for their unity in rebuilding the PDI.

Reflecting on the PDP’s past achievements, Makinde pointed to successes such as debt forgiveness and strengthened international relations, arguing that the revitalized PDI would help the party create a roadmap for national renewal. “Nigerians are looking to us for a political ideology that addresses current issues and provides hope for the future,” he said.

Former Senate President Bukola Saraki stressed the need for unity within the PDP, urging members to prioritize ideas over personal ambitions. “The PDP has always been built on ideas, philosophies, and policies, not personal ambitions. We must focus on the issues Nigerians care about, not individual aspirations for 2027,” Saraki said. He called for the PDP to strengthen its foundation based on principles and to focus on addressing national challenges.

The newly inaugurated PDI Board, led by Ambassador Taofeek Arapaja, is tasked with implementing the institute’s roadmap, with the goal of revitalizing the PDP’s legacy and restoring public trust in the party’s mission.
