The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) emerged victorious in all 33 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Oyo State during Saturday’s council election, as announced by the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC) amidst allegations of irregularities.
The results, unveiled on Sunday at the Conference Hall of the OYSIEC in Agodi, Ibadan, have sparked controversy over the conduct of the electoral process.
Despite complaints of irregularities, including delays in the arrival of materials and personnel, as well as reported instances of missing materials in certain areas, the OYSIEC Chairman, Mr. Isiaka Olagunju, affirmed the results and declared the PDP victorious across all LGAs.
However, there have been allegations of non-conduct of elections in some wards, particularly in Ibadan North, Ibadan South West, and parts of Saki in the Oke Ogun axis of the state.
Acknowledging the concerns raised, Olagunju expressed gratitude to all electoral officers, party agents, and security personnel involved in the process.
He conceded that there are areas for improvement and assured that a detailed report of the election would be presented to the state government promptly.
Meanwhile, the African Action Congress (AAC) has denounced the conduct of the local government elections and called for its cancellation.
Fẹmi Adeyeye, the National Publicity Secretary of AAC, alleged that the Oyo State government failed to conduct a credible election.
He further urged security agencies to release the State Chairman and another member who were reportedly arrested during the election period.
