PDP Now an Empty Shell — NNPP Chairman

Chairman of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in Kano State, Hashim Dungurawa, has declared the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) politically irrelevant, describing it as an “empty house” following the alleged defection of top party figures including Atiku Abubakar and Ifeanyi Okowa.

Speaking to journalists in Kano, Dungurawa said the reported exits of the former PDP presidential candidate and his running mate signal the collapse of the party both in Kano and at the national level.

“How can a serious party allow its own presidential candidate to leave the party? It means the party is not in place,” he said.
“And how can the party also allow its vice presidential candidate to join another party? Are you not aware that Okowa has joined APC now, while Atiku is in ADC?”

Dungurawa also claimed that both PDP and APC have lost relevance in Kano, insisting that the NNPP, buoyed by the Kwankwasiyya movement, remains the only formidable political force in the state.

“There is no PDP in Kano State. Even seeing an APC member is difficult now. There’s only one party in Kano the NNPP  and we also have Kwankwasiyya as a mass movement where people are trooping in,” he said.

Responding to recent claims by PDP leaders in Kano that the party is preparing for a resurgence, Dungurawa dismissed such efforts as futile.

“They’re not bouncing back into the field, they are bouncing out of the field. The party has collapsed. The kind of personalities they now parade as leaders shows they are not serious about reclaiming relevance either in Kano or nationally,” he added.

A former PDP Vice Chairman in Kano North, Dungurawa said his past experience within the PDP exposed internal dysfunction and weak leadership.

“I’ve been part of PDP leadership. I know their decisions are not geared towards victory but towards witch-hunting, mischief, and sycophancy. Nobody is genuinely working for the party’s success.”

He further alleged that figures like Rotimi Amaechi and Nyesom Wike had also moved away from PDP’s structure, reinforcing what he described as the party’s internal disintegration.

“Atiku, Okowa, Amaechi  all of them are gone. Wike is straddling PDP and APC. What is left of PDP now is an empty shell, filled only with people who have nothing serious going for them.”

Dungurawa concluded by reiterating NNPP’s dominance in Kano and predicted a further decline of the PDP’s national relevance in the coming political cycles.
