The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will convene between July 23 and 25 to receive critical updates from its committees on zoning and preparations for the party’s upcoming national convention.
PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, confirmed the development on Monday during a media briefing at the party’s national secretariat. He said the NEC would also ratify outcomes of congresses conducted in several states and local governments, as reviewed by the National Working Committee (NWC).
“The NEC meeting… will receive updates from the Zoning and National Convention Committees, particularly on preparations, composition of members across the country, and related organisational matters,” Ologunagba stated.
“One thing is clear: the PDP remains very strong. We’ve begun the process of recalibrating, fostering unity, and mobilising grassroots support.”
As the party gears up for 2027, Ologunagba slammed the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for the worsening economic and security challenges in the country, describing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu or any future APC candidate as a “bad market” for voters.
He stressed that the PDP has the national structure, membership base, and public support required to dislodge the APC at the next polls.
“The PDP is the only party that can unseat the APC. There is no community in Nigeria without PDP members. Nigerians are eager for the PDP’s return.”
On recent defections, he dismissed their impact, saying party loyalty among the grassroots remains firm.
“Those leaving are only leaders. The core membership the people are still with us. That’s what makes a political party viable.”
