PDP Gov. Back Labour’s Salary Raise Demand, Advocate LG Autonomy

Governors of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) have expressed their support for Labour’s demand for a substantial salary increase, deeming it justified and deserving of the Forum’s backing.
They emphasized the need for the agreement to consider the financial capacities of all government tiers.
“While negotiations are ongoing, we appeal for restraint against actions that could lead to the breakdown of law and order and ultimately the collapse of the economy,” the governors urged.
On the Supreme Court ruling on local government allocations, the PDP governors reaffirmed their belief in the local government system, viewing it as the tier of government closest to the people.
They committed to supporting local government autonomy as outlined in the Nigerian Constitution.
Reflecting on past governance, the Forum expressed regret over the erosion of progress made during 16 years of PDP-led governance, including single-digit inflation, the establishment of anti-corruption institutions, and improved living standards. They criticized the current APC-led administration for economic mismanagement and pledged to restore low inflation, affordable necessities, and steady Foreign Direct Investment to enhance the quality of life for Nigerians.
The Forum commended PDP governors for their innovative governance approaches in infrastructure, education, health, youth initiatives, and timely project delivery across the country. They called for transparent and fair internal party measures in the upcoming congresses and urged political parties to conduct issue-based, violence-free campaigns in the off-season elections in Edo and Ondo states. The Forum also stressed the importance of the Independent National Electoral Commission ensuring fair and unbiased elections.
Regarding the crisis in the Rivers State chapter of the party, the Forum voiced support for Governor Siminalaye Fubara and advocated for a political solution to resolve the issue. They urged Nigerians to avoid anarchy and expressed their commitment to returning the PDP to power in 2027.
The meeting, hosted by Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah, saw the attendance of 12 PDP state governors, including Bala Mohammed (Bauchi), Godwin Obaseki (Edo), Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri (Adamawa), Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta), Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Siminalayi Fubara (Rivers), Umoh Eno (Akwa-Ibom), Caleb Mutfwang (Plateau), Dauda Lawal (Zamfara), Agbu Kefas (Taraba), and Osun State Deputy Governor, Prince Kola Adewusi. Other notable attendees included the party’s chairman, members of the Board of Trustees, and various caucus leaders.
