The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) may be heading for another high-profile loss, as former Jigawa State Governor Alhaji Sule Lamido has warned that he could leave the party if its prolonged internal crisis remains unresolved.
Lamido issued the warning on Tuesday during an interview with the BBC Hausa Service in Kaduna, expressing deep frustration over what he described as sustained and deliberate efforts by some individuals to weaken and destabilise the party.
He said the continued deterioration of internal cohesion within the PDP could compel him to take personal political decisions, including the option of aligning with another political platform.
“If we cannot find solutions to the problems facing the PDP, I will have no option but to look elsewhere,” Lamido said.
The former governor accused certain elements within the party of engaging in calculated moves to undermine its stability, lamenting what he sees as the failure of the party’s leadership to urgently address its growing divisions.
According to Lamido, the PDP once regarded as a broad-based and unifying political platform has become consumed by internal wrangling, leaving many long-standing members frustrated and disillusioned.
He warned that continued infighting could further weaken the party ahead of future elections, stressing the need for decisive intervention to restore unity, discipline and purpose within its ranks.
While reaffirming his commitment to democratic values, Lamido noted that he would ultimately take a decision that aligns with his political principles and personal conviction if the PDP’s internal crisis persists.
