Valentine Ozigbo, an aspirant in the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary in Anambra, has taken legal action against the party over the outcome of the April 5 primary poll. Ozigbo, a former candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2021 Anambra governorship election, has filed a lawsuit at the Federal High Court in Awka, challenging the legitimacy of the primary, which he described as “a fraud” and “a well-scripted illusion.”
The lawsuit, which names APC, Nicholas Ukachukwu, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as defendants, seeks to nullify Ukachukwu’s nomination and compel the party to recognize Ozigbo as the rightful candidate. The court filing, supported by APC’s constitution, internal communications, and delegate registers, asks the court to determine if the APC violated its internal rules by allowing Ukachukwu to contest.
In a statement on his Facebook page, Ozigbo criticized the party for failing to conduct a legitimate primary, accusing it of orchestrating a process rife with irregularities, violence, and manipulation. He claimed that a contrived delegate list was used, with real APC members locked out while thugs and hired hands masqueraded as delegates. Ozigbo argued that the primary was decided in advance, citing the withdrawal of three aspirants from the race as evidence.
Ozigbo stressed that the APC must follow its own rules and argued that Ukachukwu, who secured the ticket with 67 votes, did not meet the minimum requirements to contest. He further condemned the party’s actions, stating that the process was a “theatre of deceit” and an insult to the intelligence of Anambra people.
Ozigbo revealed that he had exhausted the party’s internal dispute resolution mechanisms but vowed to continue his fight for justice, fairness, and due process. He emphasized that his goal was not to destroy the APC, but to strengthen it by restoring its integrity, renewing its credibility, and securing its future as a vehicle for democratic leadership.
