Osun Government Condemns Call for State of Emergency Extension

The Osun State Government has strongly opposed calls for President Bola Tinubu to extend the state of emergency declared in Rivers State to Osun.

In a statement on Wednesday, the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Oluomo Kolapo Alimi, accused Senator Ajibola Basiru, the National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), of orchestrating the call, describing it as “callous, self-centered, and unlawful.”

Alimi insisted that there is no basis for comparing the political situation in Rivers with that of Osun. He warned Basiru and the APC against attempts to destabilize the state in a bid to seize power through the backdoor. He also recalled that Basiru had previously made similar calls on a national television program.

“The people of Osun State stand firmly with Governor Ademola Adeleke, and all evil machinations against his administration will not succeed,” Alimi declared.

He urged President Tinubu to ignore Basiru’s appeal, branding him a “rejected and frustrated politician” seeking to exploit instability for political gain.

Alimi further accused the APC of attempting to incite chaos by trying to enforce a “non-existent Court of Appeal judgment” to reinstate their former local government chairmen and councilors.

He credited Governor Adeleke’s proactive leadership for preventing potential unrest, noting that the governor advised newly elected local government officials to delay assuming office immediately after their swearing-in to maintain stability.

The Osun government reaffirmed its commitment to peace and emphasized that governance will not be disrupted by political distractions.
