Senator Adams Oshiomhole has said that President Bola Tinubu cannot be expected to fix Nigeria’s struggling economy within just 24 months in office.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, the former Edo State governor argued that the current administration inherited an economy that had been “badly mismanaged” by previous governments.
“The kind of economy that was inherited by this government and you expect that in 24 months he (Tinubu) would have fixed all the whole problems and Nigeria would be back?” Oshiomhole said.
“Truly, truly, this country was badly mismanaged. The economy was badly mismanaged. This is not to blame anyone, but this is to speak to facts.”
Despite the challenges, Oshiomhole expressed optimism that “the worst is over”, suggesting that the country is gradually moving toward economic recovery.
He further stated that Nigerians would soon begin to feel the positive impact of policy reforms implemented by the Tinubu-led administration.
“We are going to begin to witness improvement in the quality of standard of living,” he said.
“I expect that all the other employers of labour who are benefitting from some of the courageous decisions that the president has taken would ensure that they pay a living wage.”
Oshiomhole’s comments come amid public scrutiny of economic policies introduced by the Tinubu government, including fuel subsidy removal and currency reforms.
