On Wednesday, the Ondo State Police Command confirmed the arrests of three individuals in connection with the suspected murder of a naval officer known only as Akingbohunmi in the Idoani community of the state’s Ose Local Government Area.
Akingbohunmi was attacked by some thugs on Monday after a dispute with a commercial motorcyclist in the region.
After the attack, Akingbohunmi, who sustained life-threatening injuries, was rushed to the hospital for prompt treatment but was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty.
According to a source, the suspects were found and apprehended in a number of places both inside and outside of the community after the search team was organized by the community leaders to find them.
The community leaders who visited the Naval School where the deceased was attached in the Imeri community were said to have promised the school authorities that all the suspects would be produced within 24 hours.
The source disclosed that one of the suspects was apprehended on his way to the Oka Akoko community, in the Akoko South West Local Government Area of the state, while he was trekking to the town to escape arrest while one other suspect was arrested at his house.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Funmilayo Odunlami, who confirmed the arrest of the three suspects, said, “Three of the suspects have been arrested and we are still on the trail of three others involved in the incident. The suspects will be transferred to the state headquarters soon.”
Many male adults who left the town when the incident occurred, according to a source, have not yet returned out of fear for being apprehended.
