Ogun, FG Sign MoU to Boost Culture, Tourism Under Renewed Hope Agenda

The Ogun State Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Federal Government to implement the Renewed Hope Cultural and Creative Projects, a major initiative aimed at repositioning the state as a cultural and tourism hub.

The MoU, signed in Abeokuta, outlines a framework for establishing a Renewed Hope Cultural Village, preserving and rehabilitating tourist sites, enhancing capacity building, and promoting economic empowerment through cultural and creative sectors.

Governor Dapo Abiodun signed on behalf of Ogun State, while the Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism, and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa, represented the Federal Government.

Describing tourism as a powerful economic driver, Abiodun said the partnership would harness the state’s rich cultural heritage for employment generation and youth engagement.

“Tourism provides employment opportunities by keeping people busy. Culture, on the other hand, unites the people,” the governor noted. “Our people are endowed with creativity, but do not have the platform to showcase their talents.”

He highlighted prominent festivals like Orona Day, Lisabi Day, Remo Day, and the world-famous Ojude Oba Festival, as well as landmark sites such as Olumo Rock, as untapped tourism assets with immense potential.

Abiodun added that his administration has provided critical infrastructure and is actively rehabilitating key tourism sites to attract both local and international visitors.

In her remarks, Minister Musawa said the partnership is part of President Bola Tinubu’s directive to deepen federal-state collaboration in promoting Nigeria’s cultural identity.

“Every state has a unique peculiarity,” Musawa stated. “This handshake allows states to drive the conversations, identify their own heritage, and expand their creative industries. We want to change the narrative about Nigeria through the power of our culture, talent, and beautiful landscape.”
