National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, has declared that the party is fully prepared for the 2027 general elections, insisting that no political force can prevent its victory at the presidential, governorship, and legislative levels.
Speaking during a live programme on Jay FM 101.3 in Jos, Plateau State, Yilwatda dismissed opposition strategies to unseat President Bola Tinubu, stressing that the ruling party remains “unbeatable.”
Opposition leaders have been mobilising against Tinubu’s re-election bid, citing rising hunger, poverty, unemployment, and insecurity under his administration. But both the Presidency and the APC have rejected the claims, describing Tinubu’s governance as effective and transformative.
Yilwatda argued that opposition parties, including the coalition African Democratic Congress (ADC), are weak, fragmented, and plagued by parochial interests.
“They are locally based in pockets of communities spread across the country, plagued by parochialism,” he said.
Citing APC’s victories in recent by-elections across 12 states, the chairman maintained that the ruling party’s dominance remains unquestionable and will continue through 2027.
He also dismissed allegations that the APC is pushing Nigeria toward a one-party state or fuelling crises within opposition parties. According to him, the challenges facing rival parties are “self-inflicted,” while their coalition is nothing more than a “marriage of convenience” destined to collapse.
Highlighting Tinubu’s economic policies, Yilwatda said they have strengthened state finances compared to the past when governors had to borrow to pay salaries. He added that the ability of states to now fund salaries, projects, and governance has encouraged defections of opposition governors to the APC.
