Ladipo Johnson, the National Publicity Secretary of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), has dismissed recent comments by Abdullahi Ganduje, National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), as “inconsequential.” Ganduje had alleged that the NNPP was grappling with severe factionalism, which Johnson refuted, calling the claim a misunderstanding of the party’s internal structure.
In an appearance on Politics HQ on News Central TV, Johnson said, “The first thing I say is that Ganduje’s words are inconsequential. He needs to open the dictionary and learn the meaning of ‘factions’.”
Johnson emphasized that the NNPP does not have any internal factions. He explained that the individuals causing confusion were long expelled and were operating under a defunct logo and an outdated constitution not recognized by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
He further stated that these expelled members had allegedly obtained a default court judgment from a town in Abia State using outdated documents and without notifying INEC or NNPP leadership. “They served themselves and used an old constitution. INEC was not there. We were not there. The court was misled,” Johnson said, adding that a motion to set aside the judgment has been filed, with a ruling expected in June.
Johnson clarified that the NNPP has complied with the judgment while challenging its validity, as it was based on the party’s previous identity rather than the rebranded version, which includes a red and white theme and an educational book symbol, adopted in April 2024.
He concluded by asserting, “For me, Ganduje is a non-starter.”
