A N50 billion lawsuit filed by Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), against the Federal Government has been postponed due to the absence of Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court in Abuja. The case, originally scheduled for Monday, could not proceed as Justice Ekwo was attending official duties in another division of the court.
The case has been adjourned to February 11, 2025, for further mention.
During earlier proceedings, Kanu’s lawyer, Aloy Ejimakor, informed the court that he had filed a notice to change counsel. Ejimakor confirmed that he would be taking over the case from Mike Ozekhome, who originally filed the suit on April 7, 2022.
Kanu’s legal action targets the Federal Government and the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) as the 1st and 2nd defendants, accusing them of violating his rights. He alleges that he was abducted in Kenya and unlawfully extradited to Nigeria to face trial. The IPOB leader is seeking a judicial determination on whether his abduction and extraordinary rendition to Nigeria were lawful.
